Museo Casa Giorgione – Castelfranco Veneto

Giorgio Gasparini o Zorzi da Castelfranco, detto Giorgione, nato a Castelfranco Veneto tra il 1477 ed il 1478 e’ stato uno dei maggiori esponenti della pittura a cavallo tra il ‘400 e ‘500. Una figura alquanto enigmatica quella del Giorgione, tanto che non usava firmare le sue opere rendendo cosi’ particolarmente laborioso da parte degli studiosi la ricostruzione del suo catalogo.

In occasione dei 500 anni dalla morte dell’artista, la citta’ di Castelfranco Veneto ha inaugurato nel 2009 il Museo Casa Giorgione. Il Museo Casa Giorgione risiede proprio nella casa del pittore, luogo in cui ha dipinto il Fregio delle Arti Liberali e Meccaniche, mentre poco distante presso il Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta e Liberale possiamo visitare la famosissima Pala. Queste due opere sono il patrimonio della citta’ murata di Castelfranco, che con il Museo vuole ricreare e collegare l’esperienza e la vita dell’artista al mondo e alle tradizioni dell’epoca. A questo scopo troviamo dislocati tra le sale della Casa del Giorgione diversi manufatti ed oggetti risalenti al periodo di attivita’ del pittore. Lo scopo e’ quello di far scoprire al visitatore un Giorgione a tutto tondo, partendo dal territorio in cui e’ nato e cresciuto e dall’epoca che ne ha influenzato l’arte. Quindi non pensate ad un luogo in cui centinaia di oggetti antichi, seppur belli, non trovano alcun nesso con cio’ che state visitando. E’ la ragione per cui talvolta le visite a musei minori mi diventano particolarmente difficili.

Il Museo diventa in questo caso un luogo che rende omaggio alla grandiosita’ dell’artista, ma anche un luogo di rivalutazione del territorio stesso.

Pochi minuti a piedi e troviamo la Torre Civica, parte integrante delle mura cittadine, che fino al 18 Agosto ospita la mostra “Cinque Piani per Cinque Artisti” aperta solo nei weekend. Ottima ragione per visitare la Torre recentemente restaurata.

Giorgio Gasparini or Zorzi da Castelfranco, known as Giorgione, was born in Castelfranco Veneto between 1477 and 1478 and he was one of the greatest painters working between the end of the fifteenth and the beginning of the sixteenth century. A somewhat enigmatic figure, Giorgione, used not to sign his works thus making it particularly laborious for scholars to reconstruct his catalog.

On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the artist’s death, the city of Castelfranco Veneto opened in 2009 the Museo Casa Giorgione. The Museo Casa Giorgione lies in the painter’s house, where he painted the Fregio delle Arti Liberali e Meccaniche, and not far from the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta e Liberale where you can visit the famous Pala. These two works are the main artistic heritage of the city of Castelfranco, which through the museum wants to recreate and connect the visitors to the artist’s life but also to the world and traditions of the times. For this purpose, scattered through the halls of the Giorgione’s house we find different artifacts and items from the painter’s times. The aim is to bring the visitor to fully discover and appreciate Giorgione, from the lands in which he was born and raised to the epoch which influenced his art. Therefore do not think of a place where hundreds of ancient objects, although beautiful, do not connect with what you are visiting. For this reason visits to minor museums may become particularly boring.

On the contrary, in this case the museum becomes a tribute to the artist’s greatness but also to the various riches of the surroundings.

A few minutes walk away you’ll find the Torre Civica (Civic Tower), an integral part of the city walls, which until 18th August hosts the exhibition “Five Plans for Five Artists” open only on weekends. A good reason to visit the recently restored tower.
